1. Who We Are
Your Accountant Match is a Melbourne-based matching service that connects individuals and businesses with independent accounting firms across Australia. We are not an accounting or tax advice provider; we facilitate introductions between users and accountants in our network. The matching service is free to you — we do not charge you any fee for being matched with an accountant. This Privacy Statement explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
2. Information We Collect
When you use our questionnaire, we collect:
- Name – so the matched accountant can address you.
- Phone number – so the accountant can contact you.
- Email address – to verify your identity before a match is shown.
- Postcode – to match you with an accountant in your area.
- Questionnaire answers – including any "Other" notes you provide.
We do not collect sensitive information such as health, race, or political opinions unless you voluntarily include it in an "Other" field.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To verify your email and prevent bots from triggering matches.
- To connect you directly with one local partner accountant who specialises in the help you asked for.
- To send the matched accountant your name, phone number, postcode, and questionnaire answers.
- To notify the accountant via email and SMS.
- To maintain records for billing and dispute resolution.
4. Information Sharing
We share your name, phone number, postcode, and questionnaire answers with your matched accountant. We do not sell your data to marketing databases or pass it to third parties beyond your matched accountant. Your information is kept private and shared only with your single matched accountant. It is never sent to multiple providers.
5. Email Verification
Before your match is shown, we email you a 6-digit code to enter on the match page. Your enquiry is only passed to an accountant once you enter that code. This prevents bots from generating false matches.
6. Data Retention
We retain your questionnaire data for as long as needed to provide the matching service and for record-keeping. You may request deletion of your data at any time by emailing privacy@youraccountantmatch.com.au. Leads stored in the accountant's CRM are retained per the accountant's own retention policy.
7. Your Rights
Under the Privacy Act, you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal information. To exercise these rights, contact privacy@youraccountantmatch.com.au.
8. Security
We use email verification and secure transmission to protect your data. However, no system is 100% secure; please do not include passwords or financial details in the "Other" fields.
9. Complaints
If you believe we've breached the Privacy Act, contact us first. If unresolved, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
