How we select accountants

Before an accountant joins our network, we confirm their identity and key business details. This may include checking their legal or trading name, ABN, business location and contact information against appropriate public records. These checks help us establish that we are dealing with a genuine Australian accounting business and that the information supplied to us is consistent and current at the time of onboarding.

Every accountant in our network is TPB-registered and a member of CA ANZ, CPA Australia or the IPA. Before an accountant joins, we confirm their registration with the Tax Practitioners Board and their professional membership, and we review any other credentials relevant to the services they provide. Accountants remain responsible for keeping their registrations and memberships current.

Not every accountant provides the same services or works with the same types of clients. We establish the accountant's principal areas of service, which may include personal taxation, business accounting, bookkeeping, BAS and GST, payroll, self-managed super funds or business registrations. This helps us understand the assistance they offer, and the services you select are passed to them so they're prepared when they contact you.

We confirm the geographical area each accountant intends to service, including the postcodes covered by their Your Accountant Match territory. Each territory is covered by one accountant. Depending on the accountant and your preference, services may be provided in person, remotely or through a combination of both.

Where professional indemnity insurance is applicable to the accountant's services or registration, we request confirmation of appropriate cover. Requirements may vary according to the accountant's registrations, professional memberships and the services they provide. Accountants remain responsible for maintaining any insurance required for their business and professional activities.

Our checks don't necessarily end when an accountant joins the network. We may periodically ask participating accountants to confirm or update important information, including their contact details, services, registrations, insurance and service area. We may also review publicly available professional information where appropriate, to keep our records current and identify material changes that could affect an accountant's participation.

Professional service complaints may also need to be directed to the accountant or an appropriate regulatory body.
